St Michael's Church

SY5 9NJ  parking, wheelchair ramp available, details of keyholders available.

St Michael's is first mentioned in 1276, and one window in the chancet dates from that time. The building was replaced in 1749, and that building extensively remodelled in 1844. The overall impression is of a Victorian building with a few clues to its ancient origins.

Set in its attractive hamlet location and easily recognised by its distinctive octagonal tower,  it also has a barrel organ, and a notable early 20th century fresco depicting Jesus and John the Baptist.  It has a wooden upper gallery supported by a beam dated 1678. The east window is in the William Morris tradition and is dated 1909.
